Another Someone by RashDash

So last week saw me take a new direction in my work.. for the first time I was filming Theatre instead of Photographing it…

Well not strictly true . I was combining my efforts in order to make my work more diverse.

As many photographers who read around the subject know we are all being told that in order to survive and have a sustainable business we must learn to shoot & edit video and be able to offer this as a package along with stills. So that is what i am doing…

I found the transition less painful than  I had anticipated as at the end of the day it boils down to capturing the essence of a show. Whilst not perfect by any means and with along way to go… all in all I am happy with my first attempt.

RashDash are a wonderful young company who I have had the pleasure of watching grow in reputation and who’s  shows get better each and everytime.  The core team are Abbi Greenland & Helen Goalen and this lateset project sees Marc Graham and Becky Wilkie join them.

The show centres around the theme of Happiness and below you can see the trailer for the show

It will be performed at the Edinburgh Fringe from the 6th – 28th August at The Bedlam Theatre

Followed by a 3 day run at The New Diorama in Regents Place, London
Keep your eyes peeled…. they are a company to watch!

Billy Elliot Youth Theatre Gala

Sunday Evening saw the culmination of the Billy Elliot Youth Programme.  The prgramme has been running since November and saw 115 schools and youth organisations take up the challenge of staging their own version of Billy Elliot The Musical.  After months of performances and various regional showcases 14 groups were invited to the home of Billy at The Victoria Palace Theatre to stage their own production of the show.  Each group contributed scenes to the show.  In total around 450 young performers participated in producing a fantastic show.

I was fortunate to be invited along to take the Production photos of the show.  It truly was a spectacular evening. Well done to everyone involved!

Here is one of my favourite images from the show!

Railway Children Train Arrival

Today i was once again at Waterloo Station on Platform 19 as things for The Railway Children start to pick up.  Today saw the press event for the arrival of the original train used in the film accompanied by Bernard Cribbins. Bernard played the character of Albert Perks in the original film.  He was there to hand over his porters hat to Marshall Lancaster who shall be play the same character in the forthcoming production.  It was incredible to see the train sat on the platform and is sure to be a very special feature of this production.

James Stanyer Headshots

On Saturday as well as shooting for The Railway Children i managed to fit in a quick shoot with James Stanyer.  He is currently studying at East 15 and soon approaching the end of his course.  With a Showcase looming and the prospect of facing the real world as an actor he was after some new headshots.  He is certainly someone to watch and it was a pleasure to photograph him.  If only everybody was as easy.

Here is a photo from the shoot. Whilst not a traditional 10 x 8 this photo really grabbed me!

Railway Children Open Auditions

Saturday saw the Open Auditions for the new The Railway Children show that will be performed on Platform 19 of Waterloo Station. This promises to be an exciting project as their aproach to staging the show is new and exciting.  They paln to build the stage around the old EuroStar Platform and use a real train during the show.  Keep your eyes peeled for this exciting project.

I was asked to go along and take pictures for press of all the kids that turned up to the open audition… all of who were very keen!
